Zitera Engineers Take Top Prizes For Nokia Mobile Apps
Written by roeland on date 16 February 2012 in News , Software Engineering .
Two engineers from Zitera, Alex Lucouw and Roeland van Nieuwkerk, recently entered a mobile application development evening school program that was hosted by the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) and Nokia South Africa. All applicants were tasked to come up with an idea for the next KILLER app and were then guided through the typical development cycle of a mobile application. Nokia provided C7 phones which the applicants used to test their apps on. Using the new Nokia QtQuick framework Alex and Roeland produced two impressive apps in a short space of time.
Alex took the prize for most innovative app with his stock optimizer. This app is a DIY person's best friend allowing you to enter the dimension of peace of wood and the desired lengths that should be cut from the peace of wood. The will then proceed to calculate the optimal cutting sequence such that the amount of cut-offs are minimized. Use this app in Builder's Warehouse or HomeDepot and you will save money.
Roeland took the route of a mobile game claiming the prize of best implemented app. Roeland developed a new version of the legendary Lunar Lander game which tends to be quite challenging to land on a mobile phone when you get to the higher levels.
